As a health psychologist, I have spent more than 20 years working with individuals and organziations examining health and illness related topics. Research has clearly demonstrated the importance of the combined effects of genetics, behavioral elements such as health beliefs, stress and our lifestyle as well as cultural influences including social isolation and support on our physical and mental health.
I have worked and consulted to acute care hospitals, post-acute care facilities, veteran’s hospitals, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes with a focus on identifying and managing co-morbid conditions of depression, dementia, anxiety and issues of aging. These conditions often complicate care, extend lengths of stay and often result in poor outcomes. Creating effective care paths and programs for organizations and empowering individual’s to participate in their own health are the key elements to successful healthcare.
The education and empowerment of individuals regarding healthcare is a key focus of my business. Through my role as a media consultant, national lecturer and consultant and co-auther of several books, my hope is that individuals will use the information to understand the connection between mind and body and become their own best healthcare advocates.
Welcome to my blog site. I hope you find the posts a helpful resource to share information on healthcare. While many of the posts will focus on general health topics, my primary area of interest and expertise is in the area of aging, more specifically on innovative programs of care for dementia.
